Bikeathon - Sunday 25th June 2017
We are delighted to announce that the Bikeathon will take place in Kingussie once again on the 25th June 2017. All ages and abilities and all types of bike are welcome with the fully supported route following quiet country roads.
The Bikeathon is a family cycle in the Cairngorms National Park with hundreds of people travelling from all over Scotland to take part.
This will be the second year we have worked with our charity partner CHSS (Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland) and the 24th consecutive year this popular family ride has taken place in Kingussie.
Bikeathon event registration will open from 9:30am at Kingussie High School and the first groups of riders will be setting off from 10.30 onwards.
The route takes in the scenic 25 mile route via Newtonmore, Ralia, Glen Truim, Laggan back to Newtonmore and participants will cross the finishing line at the Duke of Gordon Hotel, Kingussie.
At the finish there will be refreshments, a burger marquee, ice cream and hotel drinks bar. The finish line will also have entertainment and the ever popular skills corner for kids.
We will once again run the "Bike Amnesty" in association with New Start Highland - please bring along surplus or unwanted bikes so they can be put back to good use.
Writing in the Strathy newspaper Paul Corrigan, CHSS North fundraising manager and event organiser, said "The Bikeathon is a great day out for everyone and is definitely not a race. It is a great way to get outdoors for some fun exercise, enjoy magnificent scenery and signing up riders directly help people who are living with lung disease, heart disease or the effects of a stroke across every Scottish community."
Last year the event raised £10,000 all of which went to help people recover from life-threatening illness and get a quality of life back. Survival is good but getting a life back is better!
